Dr. Judy Chang is a psychologist who works with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. She specializes in working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, emotion regulation difficulties, trauma, relationship issues, and life transitions. Dr. Chang values building a warm, collaborative therapeutic relationship in which individuals feel safe, understood, and supported. She helps individuals make sense of their past and present experiences while developing skills to reduce distress, strengthen resilience, and work toward meaningful change. She considers how social, cultural, and relational contexts shape each person’s identity and experience, and provides affirming care to LGBTQ+ identified individuals.
Dr. Chang takes an integrative approach to treatment, tailoring therapy to each person’s needs and goals. Her work is grounded in a psychodynamic approach, with attention to insight, emotional patterns, and the ways past and present experiences shape relationships and functioning. In addition to psychodynamic therapy, she incorporates evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as appropriate, as well as family-systems and trauma-informed perspectives. She also has experience with Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) and integrates PCIT-informed principles and play-based approaches in her work with children and families. She works collaboratively with parents and caregivers to support children’s emotional and developmental growth.
Dr. Chang earned her B.A. in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania and her M.A. in Clinical Psychology from Korea University. She received her M.S.Ed. in School Psychology and her Psy.D. in School-Clinical Psychology from Pace University. During her doctoral training, she conducted research examining individuals’ attachment to social media and their day-to-day experiences during a break from social media use. Dr. Chang completed her predoctoral internship at Andrus in Yonkers, New York, and has experience working in a variety of settings, including schools, community mental health centers, and hospital settings.
