Sophia Mullens, PhD
Dr. Sophia Mullens is a clinical psychologist who provides therapy and consultation to children, adolescents, and adults through individual, couples, and group work. She specializes in working with trauma, grief, life transitions, relationship difficulties, and identity-related issues, with a particular focus on work with creatives, LGBTQ+-identified individuals, and young adults.
While Dr. Mullens’ work is grounded in psychodynamic theory and practice, she draws on practical tools to help individuals manage emotions, stay grounded in their bodies, and cope more effectively in the moment. She is committed to using a trauma-informed, intersectional lens to work with patients, with an understanding that our problems are shaped by both our personal history and broader social and cultural landscapes. Dr. Mullens views therapy as a powerful tool for self-understanding and personal growth. She believes that real change is possible within the context of a trusting and supportive therapeutic relationship.
Dr. Mullens earned her doctorate in clinical psychology at The New School for Social Research. She completed her predoctoral internship at Sunset Terrace Family Health Center at NYU Langone, and has experience in a range of other settings including outpatient clinics, community health centers, college counseling centers, and inpatient units.
Dr. Sophia Mullens' specialties include Trauma Therapy, Life Transitions, Challenges in Dating and Romantic Relationships, and LGBTQ+ Informed and Affirmative Therapy.
