Dr. Perold has years of experience supporting children, adolescents, adults, and couples, with extensive training in psychodynamic treatment and complementary approaches. She enjoys working with parents at all stages, and her research has focused on parent-child attachment and the influence of attachment relationships on self-view and body awareness. Dr. Perold is experienced in treating mood and anxiety disorders, trauma, personality disorders, perinatal issues and adjustment to parenthood, ADHD, and emotional/behavioral problems in children. She integrates her range of professional experiences into work with patients, where her stance is warm, curious, playful, and pragmatic.

Dr. Perold earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at The New School for Social Research in New York City. She gained experience providing psychotherapy and diagnostic services in a range of hospital and clinic settings, including Mount Sinai Beth Israel, NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy, and The National Institute for the Psychotherapies. Currently, she is completing advanced training in child and adolescent psychotherapy at Columbia University Center for Psychoanalytic Training and Research. While Dr. Perold’s primary orientation is psychodynamic/psychoanalytic, her exposure to Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Mentalization-Based Treatment (MBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness approaches allow her to integrate additional techniques, tailoring treatment to each patient’s needs. At Uptown Downtown, Dr. Perold is a clinical supervisor.

 Dr. Perold’s research has been presented at The Society for Research in Child Development, The International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies, and Division 39 of the American Psychological Association, and was awarded the Jeremy D. Safran Award in Psychology. She continues to write and speak on topics related to children and parents in settings from preschools to academic panel discussions, and has written about matrescence and motherhood in Psychoanalytic Perspectives.
