Dr. Mcgratty is a licensed clinical psychologist providing psychotherapy to adults, children, families, and couples. Her expertise and training lie in the areas of trauma and chronic pain. She sees adults in talk-based therapy, children in play therapy and couples using emotion focused psychotherapy.
Her therapeutic approach is grounded in psychoanalytic theory as a framework for understanding the human experience. Her overarching aim in therapy is to help patients explore their thoughts and beliefs, and to understand how these have been shaped by their personal histories and experiences of the world
Dr. McGratty earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from The New School of Social Research. She completed her clinical psychology internship at The New York Psychoanalytic Institute. She has worked across different hospitals including Mount Sinai, North Central Bronx and the Brooklyn VA.
Dr. McGratty also has particular expertise in working with chronic pain patients as in addition to being a clinical psychologist she is also a trained physical therapist. Her dissertation focused on understanding chronic pain through emotional expression and pain education.
